Struggling teen accepts stranger’s offer for ride home, not knowing he’s going to change his home

In present times, it might seem easy to keep our eyes and ears peeled and notice individuals who might struggle around us.

This isn’t something kept to family alone, as often strangers require some assistance too. The genuine legends of the world are those that go the extra step to give others that help.

Chauncy Jones was one young fellow who required help. A 16-year-old, straight-A student he was urgently aiming to get a job to enable his mother to be able to pay the lease, bills and purchase groceries.

While at Kroger – a “rich persons store” – while trying to grab a bite to eat,  he bumped into Matt White and offered to carry his shopping back to his car in exchange for of a pack of donuts. He didn’t realise that experience would change his life …

Having requested a pack of doughnuts as a result of bringing his sopping back to the car,  Matt willingly volunteered to accomplish more than what was asked of him. Stunned by Chauncy’s inquiry, he chose to give him something other than a sugary breakfast.

Matt brought Chancy into the store itself and purchased toiletries, cereal, and different foods for him and his mom, Barbara. Going above and beyond, Matt supplied some basic groceries himself and afterward shared his experience on Facebook.

I just met the most inspiring person ever. His name is Chauncy Jones. He’s a 16-year-old from  Memphis … He approached me while I was shopping for produce asking if he could help me carry my grocery bags to my car in exchange for buying him a pack of glazed donuts.

This kid looked like he had been turned down 100 times. He looked ashamed, hungry and broken. In my heart, I screamed a loud “yes!”, But to him, I just chuckled and said, “yeah dude, we’ll get you some donuts.”

I asked him if he was by himself and he said that he had come all the way out here with the hopes of someone buying him something to eat because he and his mother had nothing at home. He had no phone, a bus pass, and he was depending on the graces of a stranger to feed him within the hour before the bus left.”

So, needless to say, he and I went on a shopping spree. We had so much fun! We got cereal and chips and frozen veggies, pizzas, Cheetos, melons and pasta, peanut butter, milk, soap, toothbrushes, just a little bit of everything. All the while we talked and he told me how he makes straight A’s in school and is trying to get a job to help his mom pay rent. This kid was amazing.

“Chauncy kept calling himself poor, but he told me that one day he was gonna be wealthy and own his own businesses so that he could help other people in his neighborhood and buy them groceries like me. I was in awe.”

Once Matt drove Chauncy home, he understood the real truth of the 16-year-old’s life. Matt proceeded to explain how Chauncy and his mother were living on beds made out of sleeping bags, they didn’t possess a couch or even a bed and had no food at all in the refrigerator.

Chauncy’s mom had a disability that made walking too difficult and also gave her tremors.

Matt realized that his gesture had a major effect on Chauncy, and he gave him a hug before leaving and revealed to him that God adored him.

But Matt didn’t stop there he set up a GoFundMe page to help raise funds, so that Chauncy could buy a lawnmower. Once his story went viral, the page raised over $300,000.
