9 Frightening Reasons To Stop Drinking Bottled Water Today

in Uncategorized

We are all guilty of drinking bottled water, but what many of us don’t even realise is that it’s something we should question. Drinking bottled water has almost become a way of life for many Americans.

Although people are often skeptical of tap water, they feel it’s not as safe as drinking bottled water. Some people refuse to drink tap simply because they don’t like the taste. Public tap water is drinkablE, but sometimes the sight of a cold water bottle is just too tempting to pass up.

However, it turns out that there are plenty of reasons to resist temptation. There are a ton of really good reasons you should consider skipping bottled water all together.

Scroll below to discover more about the dangers of drinking bottled water.

#1: Plastic Bottles Leach Chemicals

Image result for plastic bottles are full of chemicals

You’ve probably noticed that plastic water bottles become softer after being left in the sun. The plastic can fully melt if enough heat is present. Moreover, bottled water can sometimes taste a little plastic-y, and that’s not just a coincidence.

Chemicals in plastic products can leach in and contaminate the container’s contents, According to NPR. The biggest culprit of this is BPA, an industrial chemical in plastics that acts like a hormone and can impact the brain development of babies.

Even plastics that are labeled BPA-free often test positive for other dangerous compounds.

#2: Bottled Water Comes From The Tap Anyway

Related image

Commercials for bottled water lead us to believe that our H2O is being sourced from heavenly springs with all sorts of healthy properties. The reality, however, looks a lot more like the inside of a factory. Up to 25% of bottled water being sold is actually just filled with tap water before being sealed.

Words like “purified” or “drinking water” lead us to believe that bottled water was filled at an oasis, but it’s actually code for tap. Many of the most popular and least expensive brands are guilty of this.

#3: Tap Water May Be Safer Than Bottled Water

Related image

Tap water has to meet all kinds of standards, but bottled water does not have to adhere to the same regulations.

The lack of oversight on bottled water can actually make it less safe and more likely to contain harmful materials than water from the tap.

In reality, bottled water has the reputation for being “pure,” but it’s just an illusion. In reality, you have no idea how well the water was treated.

#4: Bottled Water Has No Proven Benefits

Related image

Many people seem concerned about the quality of tap water, and choose bottled water instead. However, this opinion about bottled water being more healthy is completely wrong.

A four-year review of the safety of the water industry found no evidence supporting that bottled water is by any means superior. Basically, there is no benefit to buying a $3 designer bottle of water. Just drink from the tap instead!

#5: Bottle Production Kills The Environment

Image result for plastic bottle harmful to environment

Water aside, bottles still present issues for us and the environment we live in. The high demand for water bottles means we use over 17 million barrels of oil on a yearly basis, according to the Pacific Institute.

That is a whole lot of non-renewable resources being used unnecessarily. Can we really afford to pour our petrol resources into making a bunch of plastic bottles?

#6: Landfills Are Full Of Water Bottles

Image result for Water Bottle Production Wastes Tons Of Water

The Water Project estimates that there are over 2 million tons of PET plastic water bottles overflowing out of US landfills. For reference, PET is a nickname for the plastic used in the thin, clear plastic bottles most of us are familiar with.

Fortunately, PET bottles can be recycled, but only one in five bottles ever makes it to the recycling bin; the rest are just taking up space and contaminating our precious planet. Which takes a whopping 450 years for a plastic bottle to decompose.

#7: Bottled Water Is Expensive

Image result for paying for bottled water

Tap water isn’t technically free, but it’s pretty darn close, especially compared to the expensive bottled stuff, if you have to spend money on your water bill every month.

If you drink tap water, it costs you just a tiny fraction of your water bill. Bottled water can cost anywhere from 89 cents to $8.26 a gallon. Where a gallon of tap water costs less than a penny.

Hence why bottled water is much more expensive than tap water. So why pay for something you can essentially get for free?

#8: Water Bottle Production Wastes Tons Of Water

Image result for Water Bottle Production Wastes Tons Of Water

Plastic needs a lot of water to be produced as it takes a lot of water to make water bottles. In actual fact, it requires a lot more than the bottle itself can even hold.

NPR estimates that it could take six to seven bottles worth of water to even make the container. Instead, you could just pour yourself a glass from the tap.

#9: Tap Water Is Extremely Safe

Municipal water is tested rigorously before it can poured out of our taps. The EPA is responsible for ensuring our tap water is safe and contaminant free thanks to the Safe Drinking Water Act.

In certain cities they even require that water be tested up to 100 times a month.

Mom issues warning for parents after son collapses playing on swing set in playground

in Uncategorized

It’s never an easy task being a parent as worries seems like a full-time job when you have children. Especially when you consider that most children have a tendency to so things they really shouldn’t.

Danger can often lurk in the most unsuspecting of places despite thinking they’re safe. One mother has taken to social media in an attempt to warn other parents about the potential dangers of allowing their kids to spend too long a time on park swings.

Rebecca Jordan had to take her son to the emergency room with serious injuries, all because he span around too quickly.

The velocity at which the boy was swinging forced an excess of blood to the back of his head which burst blood vessels in his eyes, but it left doctors and nurses thinking his head had been “spray painted red”. Rebecca decided to share her story to Facebook, highlighting dangers for other parents who might not be aware.

Just so parents are aware of what could happen when your child spins way too fast for way too long on a swing with their head leaned back/hanging off,” she said.

The post itself read: “Our son loves to spin around, hes a bit of a thrill seeker (you know how boys can be). Yesterday he was playing with a group of other kids outside running around the yard and on the playground equipment. He got on the swing and told the other kids to spin him around…

As he spun faster and faster with his head back, the centrifugal force/pressure forced blood to rush to the top of his head causing blood to immediate pool/bruise, (which looked like his head was spray painted or burned). Plus the blood vessels in his eyes and eye lids burst from the extreme pressure.

They stopped him and as he got off the swing he collapsed (possible passed out for a few minutes). Several kids came inside with him to tell us what happened and he said he had trouble breathing and his “brain hurt”.

A panicked Rebecca rushed her son to the emergency room, fearing he had a potential brain injury. CT scans revealed damage similar to that seen in shaken baby syndrome.

The post continued: “Keep in mind he never actually hit his head, this was only from the centrifugal force pulling while spinning on the swing. (Similar traumatic brain injuries occur from shaking baby syndrome).

The doctors and nurses were puzzled and thought he spray painted his head because they have not seen this type of presentation of blood bruising before. They were very quick to examine his head, eyes and inner ears and sent him for a C.T.

Praise God it came back normal, no internal injuries or brain swelling. But seriously, we will be very cautious about spinning excessively from now on.”

Rebecca’s son didn’t suffer any life-threatening injuries, but she still wants to make sure people are aware of the potential dangers associated with swings.

Police Design Free ‘Mirror Tags’ to Help Prevent Hot Car Deaths & Every Parent Should Have One

in Uncategorized

Each year as the weather begins to heat up and summer’s officially in full swing, the same tragic headlines begin to roll in. A parent absentmindedly leaves a sleeping baby in the back seat on a warm day, or a toddler slips into the family vehicle when no one’s looking.

Whatever the case, accidental hot car deaths are a scary reminder of what can happen when children are left unattended in the heat, even for short periods of time. In an attempt to prevent this occurring, a police force is hoping to help cut the number of children who die in hot cars by giving out free reminders for parents to keep in their vehicles.

In a June 25 Facebook post, the O’Fallon Missouri Police Department announced it would be giving away free rearview mirror tags to the public:

The mirror tags could be life-saving, when you consider how easily these deaths can happen. Hot car deaths may be small in comparison to the number of other vehicle-related deaths, but are preventable.

Many other hot car deaths begin with something many parents live in fear of: a simple case of forgetfulness that ultimately leads to tragedy. Such was the case for Kristie Reeves-Cavaliero and her husband, Brett, who lost their infant daughter Sophia “Ray Ray” in 2017.

As Kristie mentions it happened on the kind of day we all have from time to time: baby Sophia — who by that point had become the family alarm clock — randomly overslept, which then caused her parents to oversleep, and run late to work.

The morning was then thrown into the kind of rushed chaos we’re all familiar with, except for one small mistake that triggered a tragic chain of events: Instead of dropping Ray Ray off at day care, Brett absentmindedly drove straight to work — and forgot about his sleeping baby in the back seat.

That morning he took a right-hand turn instead of a left,” Reeves-Cavaliero said, looking back. “And so our tragedy started with one single wrong turn.” Hours later the infant was found unresponsive in the back of Brett’s car, first responders said it was heat-related illness.

According to the National Safety Council, of around 800 children who died in hot cars in the United States in the last 20 years more than half happened because a caregiver forgot they were there. Dr. David Diamond, a professor of psychology at the University of South Florida, has been studying what some have dubbed “Forgotten Baby Syndrome” for years.

And while it may not be what most parents want to hear, Diamond said, “Any person is capable of forgetting their child.” But after speaking with dozens of parents who have lost their child in this way, Diamond says he’s noticed certain patterns that seem to connect most of their stories.

When you drive home and don’t normally take a child to day care, when you have a habit and you are normally driving home from work — and in those subsets or maybe none at all take a child home — well, what happens in all these cases, the parent goes into autopilot mode, which is typically from home to work,” Diamond explained.

Officials in Missouri, hope the new mirror tags will help alert parents who might find themselves in a similar situation. After all, how many of us have slipped into a daydream as we drove, or lost focus in the chaos of the day — especially in moments of stress or sleep deprivation?

On Facebook, users were quick to praise the police department’s efforts.”What a wonderful idea and making it available to the public is awesome,” wrote one user. “Children are our most precious gifts that we have been allowed to watch over, guide and protect.

While there were some critical comments left on the post — as well as some that criticised how “sad” it was that a product like this would even need to exist — many were merely grateful that it does.

“I can’t believe the negative comments and the overconfidence that some people could never forget,” wrote one person. “Departure from the normal routine, especially when stressed about something, is when mistakes happen … The decals may save a baby. Thanks for providing them.”

School Nurse Begs Parents To Donate Feminine Hygiene Products For Students Who Can’t Afford Them

in Uncategorized

Many teenage girls feel embarrassed about their first period. Personally, I felt everyone would know exactly what I was going to the bathroom. Luckily I had supportive friends who reminded me that having a period was normal.

These days I’m totally comfortable with my monthly cycle to the extent I can even write about it! I’ve tried menstrual cups, reusable pads, a menstrual massage, and pretty much everything else in between.

Although I was once embarrassed about my period, I was always able to afford feminine hygiene products. However some girls aren’t as fortunate.

A school nurse recently had an interaction with a student that made her turn to the internet to ask for help. She wrote:I’m a school nurse in a state that doesn’t provide feminine hygiene products to its students. Everyday I have girls come in needing products.

It’s true that some are just unprepared but SO many of them have told me they feel guilty asking their parents for $5 for tampons.

tampon blue

We have programs for free lunch and we even have a program where we send home food for the weekend.

But nothing to supply these girls with tampons. I asked a girl today what she does at home and she said she uses toilet paper.

tampon period

I use my own money to buy these girls pads and tampons. Every school nurse I know does. So when you’re sending school supplies drop off a box of tampons and see one grateful nurse!!

pantyliner

Edit – I wanted to share the conversation I had with the particular student mentioned above.

Her – “Hey, um, that time of the month again. Do you have anything?”

Me – “I do, but I’m almost out. You forgot again?”

Her – “No, but I don’t have any at home.”

coins pile

Me – “Ok. But you really need to get some. If you’ll bring me $5 I’ll pick them up for you.”

(I know this girl pretty well by now. She lives with her dad and has a difficult relationship with him.)

Her – “My dad used quarters to pay for gas this morning. I’m not asking him for $5.”

toilet paper

Me – “Ok sweetheart. I’ll get you a couple boxes for Home. But what do you usually do at home when you start your period?”. Her – “I use toilet paper.”

These girls aren’t too embarrassed or lazy or forgetful, just poor which they can’t help or afford. Most can afford it. Out of 400 menstruating girls maybe 20 have a hard time getting access to pads or tampons. That’s still 20 too many. Thanks to everyone who donates!!!

Lady Who Licked Tub Of Ice Cream In Viral Video Could Face 20 Years In Prison

in Uncategorized

A woman who was filmed licking an ice cream tub and then putting it back in a supermarket in Walmart in Lufkin in Texas, could face 20 years behind bars.

This is not something you’d want to think about while doing your shopping.

She continued to remove the protective cover and lick the entire top layer of the ice cream before placing it right back on the freezer shelf. She did it all with a grin on her face.

This disgusting incident was shared on Twitter by the woman’s friend which quickly received over 11 million views. Blue Bell called it a “malicious act” and denounced the ice cream licker:

“The safety of our ice cream is our highest priority, and we work hard to maintain the highest level of confidence of our customers. Food tampering is not a joke, and we will not tolerate tampering with our products.”

Staff found the freezer case that contained the tainted ice cream, pinpointed the carton in question, and removed all other Tin Roof half-gallons from that Walmart location.

The store even temporarily stationed a guard “armed” with a squirt gun in front of the ice cream freezer. But, police took the incident seriously and didn’t give up until they found out who the “ice cream culprit” was.

Authorities say the woman has now been identified — and she faces a second-degree felony that comes with a very severe punishment.

Take a look at the incident below which was share online:

Viral photo shows charming way farmers protect calves’ ears from frostbite

in Uncategorized

When we get cold we can put on something to keep us warm. But what happens to animals when they get cold?

Well who wraps them up? Recently a dairy farmer shared an adorable image on Twitter that shows how animals keep warm with earmuffs!

Image result for Viral photo shows charming way farmers protect calves' ears from frostbite

Newborn calves are most at risk for frostbite because “they are wet and because they have a large surface area in relation to their total body mass.”

Also they are unable to regulate their body temperature. As with humans, “the extremities are most at risk” for calves.

“Frozen ears and tails result in changes of cattle appearance but do not affect cattle performance significantly. Frozen feet generally result in a calf that must be put to sleep or will die. Occasionally teats of a recently calved cow freeze resulting in mastitis and frequently loss of milk production in at least one quarter of the udder.”

To combat the cold Whittier recommends farmers supply windbreakers, provide dry bedding, house calving cows and calves when the temperatures reach below 10º F. Obviously farmers can also provide their cattle with cute earmuffs!

Woman Thinks Engagement Ring Is ‘Small,’ Then Shames Fiancé Online After Finding The Receipt

in Uncategorized

Before a proposal the man buys a ring to surprise his partner by getting down on one knee to ask her to take his hand in marriage.

Obviosuly, proposals are becoming more and more elaborate as time goes on. Think: underwater proposals, horses fashioned with unicorn horns, and hidden camera crews. With or without the bells and whistles, it is an occasion that should be marked by happiness and excitement to begin the next chapter.

Diamonds may be a girl’s best friend, but in a perfect world, the diamond is more of a symbol of commitment from the girl’s best friend.

Alas, the world is not perfect, and sometimes the diamond isn’t exactly what the bride-to-be has in mind.

One user said about her “small” engagement ring online in hopes of garnering some advice. But, her cry for help left some people raging.

The user shares:

DP proposed and presented me with the ring he’d chosen – a diamond solitaire in white gold. I was so happy and excited to accept but was disappointed when I first saw the ring. The first word that entered my head was ‘small.’

There’s nothing to dislike about the type of ring per se. As a diamond, solitaire would have been my choice, but it’s the whole thing — the colour of the gold, the setting, the small stone and relatively chunky shoulders.

His salary is nearing a 6 figure sum and he’s usually very generous. Having seen the receipt I know he paid £1,300  for it – which is a lot less than I would have imagined he would have spent on such a significant piece of jewelry.

He’ll be more disappointed in me for making a fuss over it when, in his eyes, it fits and there’s nothing actually wrong with it, rather than being disappointed that I’m not truly happy with it.

Someone at work apparently told him that ‘if she makes it all about the ring, then she’s not the girl for you.’

Ideally I would have loved for us to have chosen a ring together and made a special day finding one we both liked. As it’s something I’ll be wearing every day and is such a special piece of jewelry, I wanted to really love it and I just don’t. Has anyone else been in this situation? What did you do?

As you can imagine, many people who saw this post were appalled by how ungrateful the bride-to-be was seeming.

The ring, cost roughly $1,675, which is certainly more than many women would expect. However, cost is beside the point, according to many users.

One said:If you’d said you didn’t like the style, I’d have been fairly sympathetic. But if it’s simply not big and flashy enough… it sounds like you’re more interested in showing off the ring than you are in him.

Another user thinks her fiancé’s friend at work was onto something:Blimey. I’d have been delighted; talk about being ungrateful, the person at work is 100% right. Then others were more sympathetic:

You will get flamed for this and people will call you grabby but I can see where you are coming from — not the cost per se but the fact u will be wearing it every day and u are not totally in love with it. I can see both viewpoints.

15 Enormous Hairdos From The 60s We Have Tried To Forget

in Uncategorized

If there is one thing that is consistent about people, it’s the fact that they change on a regular basis. One thing that may have been popular at one time quickly changes and suddenly, everybody is going in the exact opposite direction. As we look back through recent history, we see that some of those styles are not only different, they actually take us by surprise that we ever followed that trend in the first place. One of the ways that this is most pronounced is when we look at the hairstyles from the 1960s. Some people called them a beehive while others called a bouffant hairdo but in either case, we have to wonder what they were thinking.

In the United States, they became popular thanks to Jackie Kennedy. Her bouffant hairdo was so popular at that time that everybody seemed to want to follow the trend. In fact, they even took things to the next level and everybody absolutely loved it! As hair was continuing to reach new heights, the beauty salons were no doubt overpowered by this obsession with big hair. Sometimes it would take an entire day to get ready for an evening with such a hairdo.

Sigler’s diploma was accepted on his behalf by his brother at the graduation ceremony. Charles Sigler, the boy’s father says the selfless decision of his son to be an organ donor would inspire others who are in need.

He said: “If I’m able to get one person to give the same gift as Michael, then, you know, mission accomplished.”

11-year-old girl is hailed a hero after fighting off attacker in restaurant bathroom

in Uncategorized

Parents constantly worry about their children. Our main priority as parents is to keep our kids safe. However we can’t be with them all the time and so it’s important that we teach our kids to fight back if they find themselves in a threatening situation.

Luckily enough most of us haven’t experienced a dangerous situation where we re unsure of how to react when faced with a threat. This 11-year-old girl who was grabbed in a restaurant bathroom by a man, she fought back with such bravery, she has been hailed a hero.

The girl, who cannot be named, was enjoying a meal with her father and other family members at Sonny’s BBQ in Brunswick, Georgia. When she went to the women’s restroom alone, she encountered a terrifying experience.

A man had followed her into the bathroom, held her by the throat and covered her mouth with his hand, so she would be quiet. The girl shouted, fought off the attacker and ran away from the bathroom. When staff heard the girl’s screams they ran to help.

As a mom, when I heard that scream, a reality check came over me and probably along with my whole entire staff,” said employee, Amber. Staff then grabbed the man and until police arrived they locked down the restaurant.

Officers arrested John Schuler, 40, and charged him with aggravated assault, false imprisonment, and enticing a child for indecent purposes.

“Each and every grisly discovery of unspeakable acts committed against the most vulnerable among us, fills us with outrage, and disbelief,” the victim’s mother wrote on Facebook. “I am still in disbelief that this happened to my child.

“I hate to even think about it, but there is no telling what he would have done to (my daughter) had she frozen in fear,” the mother continued.

She urged every parent to teach their children to fight, scream and do whatever it takes to get away if they find themselves in the same situation. ‘This was a God moment’

The mother of the girl said the sheriff called to commend her daughter and called her a hero, saying “there is no telling how many children’s lives her bravery saved,”.

Amber and her co-worker, Jordan, believe God placed each person in the restaurant that day in order that a criminal might be brought to justice.

“This was a God moment,” said Amber. “God put me in the right place at the right time, put Jordan in the right place the right time, put my staff in the right place.” “That’s what I believe. God saved this girl; we were just people in the right place.”
