Postpartum depression can affect any woman who gives birth. In fact, it affects an incredibly large amount of women. Postpartum depression can cause mothers to sometimes hurt themselves, but also hurt their babies. Which seems to be the case in this story.
Nurses and doctors were dumbfounded when they walked in on a mom who was biting her newborn son’s hand.
The 24-year-old mother was found biting into her infant’s arm just days after her son’s birth. The nurse who discovered the horrible incident tried to pry the mother’s teeth off the child with much resistance from her.
A team of doctors intervened and forcibly removed mom’s incisors from the baby’s arm. Once the doctors were able to stop the young mother from harming her newborn son, they sedated her and took the baby away to safety. The mother was apparently found pregnant on the street and taken in to the hospital.
Just days after she finally gave birth, the new mother decided to hurt her innocent child. She bit the baby hard enough to make his hand and arm bleed.
“It was really shocking, the arm was badly damaged and suffered not only heavy bruising but bleeding as a result of the bite,” said a hospital spokesperson. “Fortunately, doctors managed to insert something to stop her closing her teeth and then levered her jaws apart. After that they gave her a sedative and took the baby to a secure location.”
It is suspected that the mother may have mental health problems. The hospital are still investigating the incident and trying to determine how to keep the baby safe and help the mother get better.
